Some of you may know the primary reason why I even decided to make this page was mainly because of Barbarian Odyssey, which is a yet-to-be released game project produced by a small studio called Mythologic Interactive. And ever since the very start, I dedicated most of my time working on art related to this game, perhaps because I was very, very hyped. And it got as far as me starting my own Fan-fic based of this character, which is also something I'll be discussing in this post...
However, not so long ago, a had a brief moment of reality check when I came across a internal discussion within the Mythologic Interactive community while they were talking about the many possibilities to make Superfighters Deluxe great again. This opened my eye about something I had not think about it since I first heard of the sequel for the game, and it's the fact this game is being made by only two men, and that their biggest game ever took almost an decade to be finished.
This somewhat reminded me of the other several game projects that I too was very excited for at some point, but when I look back at most of these games I realize none of them have ever been released or finished. I know it might not happen to BO, but I too fear I might not even get to see this game at all.
It's starting to sound like a first world country issue, so let's switch the topics...
The Legend of Steel, which is the BO-based Fan-fic I came up with in late-2023, was probably my best attempt at creating a on-going web-comic series, and I say this based on my first attempt at creating one back in 2022, which ended up in the abyss. However, things started to really hit different not so long ago, when I started to realize how small it truly was and how it was so difficult to find a spot in this site. You put so much effort into something and not a lot of people will see it, it's something I never thought the possibility of.
Furthermore, this became more and more a common phenomena, and it really started to feel like the issue was something about whatever I was doing, I thought maybe my style wasn't attractive enough. I look around and I see very talented people spending hours upon hours working on real art and receiving a warming feedback, not just that, they also make a living off of it. Which brings us to the next topic...
Since before I started this page, I was already struggling trying to find a job, I look back now and it's been so long since I basically locked myself inside my room. Everything and everybody became so distant, it started to feel like 2020 all over again. As the time passes by you realize you are living another man's dream, and even though I never really cared that I was making all of these artworks out of pure passion, I knew it wasn't about me. It have always been about a character that does not belong to me. You have a brief look into this page and all you see is the same buff guy wearing a helmet, over and over, like I'm really obsessed with it, and it's obvious that I truly was.
Thankfully, this same character was the main inspiration for me to create my own character, a character that I was very excited about. But having to look deep into what this page has become over the past few months and what else do I have to bring in here, I realize it's best if I take some time off. Even though I have a lot of ideas for illustrations, books and whatnot, I can't expect myself to do this forever just as an hobby, I'll have to go out there eventually and find my own purpose.
This isn't a goodbye, but more of a 'been seeing ya' kinda thing. I can't say I won't continue the BO-fanfic either because I still hold on to very strong ideas for that project. It's just that whatever situation I'm in right now, even if I'm not at all in a bad spot, concerns my well-being and I'm most concerned about the future, but who isn't really?
This is Sillyrespawn3, signing-off...
